The capsule of a condenser microphone (the only type SCHOEPS makes) cannot be driven directly through the mic cable or through an input. A microphone amplifier must be inserted. One of the 20 MK capsules of the Modular System must therefore be screwed onto an amplifier to constitute a complete microphone.
The CMC 6 Ug is designed for standardized phantom power in 12 V and 48 V. Its circuit automatically recognizes the type of power supply (12 V or 48 V) and adapts to it. Its characteristics have essentially been little modified: only the current is adapted to the supply voltage. The current intensity is higher at 12 V than at 48 V. However, the power absorbed with the 12 V supply is lower. This is an advantage if you work with a battery.
A little technique: the amplifier supplies the capsule with the current which allows it to emit a signal. As this signal is very weak (at high impedance), it needs (current) amplification. To avoid any signal disturbance between the microphone and the input, it must be carried at low impedance and symmetrically. The CMC 6 Ug has a balanced class A output stage, without transformer or capacitor. This configuration results in very low output impedance, high resistance to interference, low distortion and low weight.
