The new Evans EC2 SST skins have a ring (Sound Shaping Technology) mounted under the two plies of 7mil. By controlling the vibrations on the edge (instead of eliminating them), the ring isolates and attenuates the harmonics, increases the bass and attack, and allows a wider range of tuning.
