Description

Richard strauss
Eight poems op. 10

Annette Oppermann (Editor)

Urtext edition, high voice, paperback binding

Original tones for high voice

The eight lieder composed in 1885 to texts by the now little-known poet Hermann von Gilm occupy a special place in Richard Strauss's production of lieder. For the first time, he put here to music a whole group of songs to texts by a single poet and then brought them together in a single opus also intended for printing. Some numbers like Zueignung, Die Nacht, and Allerseelen are among Strauss's most popular lieder, but it is also the cycle in its entirety which is, by its well-arranged arrangement, worthy of consideration and to be performed in public. : the composer, still in full evolution, is here very consciously in the tradition of Schubert to Wolf, and chooses, with vain love, a highly romantic theme, which is brought to light in the most diverse facets.
The main source for Henle's Urtext edition is the first edition published in 1887, which Strauss provided with a dedication to the Bavarian royal court singer, the Kammersänger Heinrich Vogl - an incentive to be taken very seriously by our contemporary singers. , in order to prevent them from abandoning these wonderful Strauss songs exclusively to singers!
