Maria Inês Guimarães (* 1959 in Uberaba, Brésill)

Pianist, musicologist, composer, teacher

Maria Inês Guimarães began her studies with Odette Camargos in Uberaba, Minas Gerais and in São Paulo worked with Eudóxia de Barros and Rafael dos Santos. She also followed the master classes of Magdalena Tagliaferro. She followed training with jazz musicians and improvised music Jean Marie Machado and Bruno Wilhelm.

Since the beginning of her career, Maria Inês Guimarães has always devoted part of her concert programs to both traditional and classical Brazilian music. Whether in Brazil or elsewhere, Bach, Beethoven, Fauré and Kurtág rub shoulders with Nazareth, Mignone, Abreu, Villa-Lobos and Antunes.

With her group Ilustrando o CHORO, composed of a piano, flute, bass and Brazilian percussion, she keeps alive the tradition of "Chorinho" which is more than a century old.

In France since 1988, Maria Inês Guimarães has worked with Anna Stella Schic and Françoise Parrot-Hanlet. She defended in December 1996, under the supervision of Edith Weber, a doctoral thesis in History of Music and Musicology (Sorbonne-Paris IV), thanks to a grant from the Brazilian government, which enabled her to study work of the composer Lobo de Mesquita (1746-1805). His thesis was published by the Presses Universitaires du Septentrion in 1997.

Free improvisation being one of her passions Maria Inês Guimarães founded in 2004 the Asymmetry Duo with the Brazilian percussionist Brenda Ohana and in 2007 the Wilhelm-Guimarães-Mendy Trio with Bruno Wilhelm and Paul Mindy. She is a founding member of the group L'achachement des Bobines formed in 2006. With her three training courses, she works on composition in the moment, born of mutual listening and the search for unity using different aspects of the material. sound. The publication of articles as well as scores and the position of full professor at the Antony Conservatory, complete the music activity of Maria Inês Guimarães who recorded 10 discs as a performer, composer and musicologist.

Fausto Reis (* 1978), cavaquiniste

Fausto Reis has played with big names in Choro and Brazilian music: Pernambuco do Pandeiro, Hamilton de Holanda, Zé da Velha, Jaime Ernest Dias, Dirceu Leite, Ezequiel Piaz, Bruno Rian ...

He lives in Brazil where he follows a career as a soloist, composer, arranger and teacher. His work based on the oral transmission of choro is a model of the genre. He trains a new generation of musicians using the old way of transmitting popular music while supplementing the training with more academic subjects.
