The PRM1 is a high-precision measurement microphone (Precision Reference Microphone). It is a special type of condenser microphone that provides precise reproduction of the sound characteristics of a room for use with audio analysis tools such as real-time analyzers (RTAs) or spectrographs.
The PRM1 employs a quarter inch pre-polarized electret-capacitor capsule and has an omnidirectional directivity pattern, that is, it is equally sensitive in all directions. This allows the microphone to measure reflections as well as direct signals ensuring an accurate representation of the room. This microphone can manage up to 132 dB of SPL and has a frequency response, linear, between 20 Hz and 20 kHz, so as not to color the sound.
The PRM1 has a tight dynamic range because it is intended to receive test frequencies, such as 'pink' noises, at a fixed level. Therefore, it is not recommended for registration. But it is the ideal microphone for adjusting a sound system and retranscribing the tracks with precision in a broadcast location.
