Volca is a series of 6 analog, digital, and two sample sequencer models:

- The Volca Keys synthesizer
- Bass Volca bass synthesizer
- The Volca Beats drum machine

- The Volca FM synthesizer
- Volca-Kick analogue bass drum sound generator

Each module has a Midi sync to interface with its favorite software and a sync in / out to link several Volca. It gets carried away everywhere thanks to its battery operation and its mini speaker.

Sync jack and Midi in connector allow synchronized execution with multiple units or with your DAW. Using the sync jack, you can enjoy synchronized playback with multiple Volca or with a Monotribe.

You can also use the SyncKontrol app (iPhone) to wirelessly control tap tempo, swing settings, and synchronized playback with iOS music apps via WIST. The Midi in connector allows you to synchronize with other devices or play the Volca from any Midi keyboard. You can also send note messages from your DAW and use the Volca as an analog sound module.

The inspiration of the "West Coast style" in Volca format

The synthesis "West Coast style" consists of starting from a harmonic wave (a sinusoid for example) and adding frequency modulation and distortion (or wave shaping). Starting from analog and integrating freely all the elements, including FM and PCM, the volca series is close to the trend "West Coast Style".

Patch to duplicate the possibilities

The Volca Modular modules are interconnected by the patch cables provided, allowing a wide variety of combinations. The compact chassis of the Volca Modular offers 50 patch inputs and outputs. These are color-coded for simplified visual recognition, and signals are also marked with symbols to indicate audio, control, gate or trigger. In principle, each signal is connected according to its use, but on the Volca Modular, the signal levels are universally compatible between the modules, multiplying the possibilities of patches.

Twenty patch cables are included, as well as a reference sheet explaining each connection point and providing examples of standard connections.

Sequencer in 16 steps that can automate the parameters

The Volca Modular is equipped with a 16 step sequencer offering a wide range of functions, allowing you to enjoy automatic performance. Using the 16 familiar keys of the Volca series, you can make a step input or use the keys as keyboard for real-time recording. The Pattern Chain feature allows you to sequentially read multiple sequence patterns, allowing you to connect up to 16 sequences with up to 32, 64 or even 256 steps to create a complete development.

The motion sequence function records button movements, making it easy to add automations. They result in loops or live use for outstanding performance. The unit can accommodate up to 16 sequential patterns and different sounds.

You also have an active step function that allows you to read while skipping the steps you specified. You can skip the second half to produce a short loop, use another time signature to create polyrhythms and move the sequences in real time to create dynamic performance.

Randomization function that can generate ideas

The Modular Volca Sequencer allows you to specify randomization for notes, active steps and micro tuning. Uneven sentences, rhythms and scales that may not come to mind can be generated by this function, leaving the Volca to be a source of unknown ideas.

Two new modes added for sequence playback

Two new sequence modes have been added: the "bounce" mode that goes back and forth through the stages, and the "stochastic" mode that gradually unfolds while moving forward and backward at random. The different playback options of a recorded clip add dramatic changes to your song or performance.

Musically advanced scales, tones and micro-chords

Beyond the West Coast signature of the Volca Modular, it offers contemporary and versatile possibilities. It is possible to choose from 14 types of scale, including an equal temperament. Since you can also specify the tone from which these scales start, you can play these scales in any tone.

A micro-tuner also allows you to individually specify the pitch of each note. You can pursue your own unique music by playing in an original tuning with the pitch of the notes raised or lowered.

Excellent playability

Connectors for synchronizing performance and external control

With a sync jack that allows easy connection to a groovy KORG machine, the Volca Modular can partner with another Volca series unit, a Minilogue, a Monologue, a Prologue, an Electribe, or the SQ-1, and synchronize the sequencer to playback.

The CV IN jack for external control is a 3.5 stereo mini jack that allows you to input two signals.

Left channel: ± 5V signal

Right channel: 1V / oct signal (0- + 6V) which is converted to pitch CV inside the Volca module.

Of course, each of these two signals can also be patched to control a module.
