With the Custom Badass '78 Distortion, MXR revisits the RAT distortion pedal, a historic model launched in 1978 that has since proven its worth.
More solid, more Badass.
The vintage copies are famous for their big sound, exploited notably by Jeff Beck or Joe Perry, but not for their reliability. Modern models are a little stronger but do not sound as good. Faced with this dilemma, MXR has taken over the original circuit and adapted it to make it an unbreakable monster capable of adapting to many musical contexts.
Never without my Badass!
Jazzmen appreciate its fluid and organic character, rockers like the thickness of its bass, and punks swear by its fuzzy side when pushed to the bottom. The Custom Badass '78 Distortion offers a much richer sound range than the simplicity of its settings could not let it believe. And can even be used with equal happiness on a clear sound or in addition to an already crunchy sound.
The Crunch button gives access to a modified version of the original circuit. The dynamic range then becomes wider, less compressed, and the distortion is richer in harmonics. No need to boost your pedal, it does it alone! And with a traditional tone tuning that stretches from bass to treble rather than the weird cut of the original pedal, you'll find the sound you have in mind very quickly.
