The popular Brazilian Guitar Suite by Heitor Villa-Lobos is the fruit of the composer's youthful experiences as a musician in "chôro" ensembles, a typical expression of popular urban music in early 20th-century Brazil. This famous composition was published by Max Eschig in 1955 on the basis of a manuscript dated 1948. A previous manuscript of the Suite, dating back to 1928, was found in 2005 in the archives of Editions Max Eschig. This critical edition, edited by Frédéric Zigante, offers the two versions (belonging to two creative moments separated by twenty years of interval) as well as a new critical comment, which illustrates the differences between the two editorials.
