Description

The Radial JDI Stereo is a stereo passive direct box designed to handle extreme signal levels without distortion of any kind.

Unlike an active DI - which is limited by the rail voltage of the amplifier buffer, the Radial JDI Stereo uses a pair of Jensen audio transformers that both manage signal symmetry and reduce impedance allowing long cable lengths. No power supply is therefore required.

The magic comes from the Jensen transformers found in the circuit. Jensen transformers are known for their ability to correctly manage transients while offering a silky and softness that reminds us of the consonance of vintage equipment.

With a flat response from 10 Hz to 40 kHz and with virtually no phase deviation, the Radial JDI Stereo delivers the instrument's natural, pure sound without artifacts. In addition to converting the unbalanced signal to low impedance, transformers are also used to isolate the input from the output by filtering the parasitic DC voltage that can cause noise and lead to so-called ground loops. This allows audio to pass through while eliminating problems.

The Radial JDI Stereo has a pair of jack connectors in addition to an input pad at -15 dB on each channel. This is completed by a ground lift switch that disconnects pin 1 from the 2XLR outputs to reduce hum and buzz caused by ground loops. The steel used for its case is extremely strong. In book format, it acts with the transformer's mu-metallic covers as a Faraday cage to protect powerful magnetic fields such as those generated by amplifiers. This ensures that the signal is transferred without noise and snoring.

The original JDI has become the reference passive live box for professional tours and studios around the world. The stereo version will undoubtedly have the same purpose.
