Having tried the WSA-100 and SML Paris A300 before the Yamaha YAS-280, unsurprisingly the YAS-280 proves to be more focused, with an astonishing ease of play, both in terms of sound and fingerings. However, the sound lacks much personality compared to my old Selmer (I'm stating the obvious), but it fulfills its function well as a student saxophone. My daughter, who is moving from a curved soprano to this alto, immediately found her bearings and already produces a correct and accurate sound from the first handling.
For a more experienced saxophonist, they will need to turn to a more assertive mouthpiece to make it sound as it should.
Small details: the soldering is lead-free.

Lacks warmth but with another mouthpiece already reveals more harmonies and "sounds" better.
For a child, it remains a safe bet nonetheless.
