The DPA 4011A condenser microphone, with cardioid pattern, is an upgraded version of our Model 4011, a true "classic" in the recording world - exceptionally renowned both in the recording studio and in the PA system. It uses premium components, carefully selected to ensure optimum neutrality and precision as well as extremely low distortion.
Cardioid, linear and pure
The main advantage of the 4011A model lies in the regularity of its cardioid directivity and in its respect for the smallest sound details: as close as possible to the original sound. Its premium cardioid-style directivity ensures excellent separation between sound sources when the microphone is used as an add-on - on all styles of music, from rock 'n' roll to opera. The 4011A adapts just as well to a sound recording in proximity on an acoustic guitar, a grand piano, in overheads, on percussions, wind instruments or vocals, as to an additional use on a symphony orchestra. . It accepts incredibly high sound pressure levels, and incorporates a 20 dB attenuator (pad), whose switch is located in the center of its XLR connector - which helps reduce the output voltage of the microphone.
Perfect naturalness
Thanks to its linear in-axis frequency response and excellent phase regularity, the 4011A delivers completely faithful reproduction of the original sound. Its off-axis response is just as regular; any crosstalk picked up from another instrument is therefore a faithful reflection of the original, with attenuation mathematically determined by the first-order cardioid curve. The feeling of “being there” will always be more intense with the DPA 4011A than with any other cardioid microphone.
