Designed to give bass a boost, the 4055 takes the traditional concept of a kick drum mic and turns it on its head. Gone is the pre-made sound, you can now take the design of the sound in hand.
What sets the 4055 apart from the competition is that it delivers the renowned DPA sound, clarity and linear frequency response, both on-axis and off-axis. Its low-frequency response and dynamics are superb and result in a tight, natural and well-defined sound - the best low frequencies with detailed mids and highs.
The 4055 is one of the only kick drum mics whose sound isn't tailor-made to match a traditional sound in a specific genre. Its performance allows a professional sound designer to create the exact sound they are looking for, regardless of musical genre. Want more attack? Slide the 4055 into the bass drum and aim it directly at the drummer. For extra bass sound, place the 4055 at the hole, just outside the front head. It is here that the level of bass and bass is most represented.
Not only does positioning it inside or outside the bass drum give you different sounds, but working with the angles of the microphone just outside the hole will give you nuances in the drum sound. Whatever your sonic preference, the 4055 captures the true sound of a kick drum, whether used in classical, jazz, rock, or any other genre.
The 4055 is housed in a large, sturdy case and there is wind dampening foam right in front of the capsule, behind the grille. A specially designed shock mount also suspends the capsule inside the case to prevent vibration from the stage. Shock mount and additional wind dampening ensure the 4055 only picks up the source.
The 4055 is easy to position, both inside and outside the drum. Its unique asymmetrical design allows the mic to be easily placed in the battery hole without tearing the front resonator skin.
