This sonata in a movement for cello and piano, Op. 2 of Evgeny Kissin, is composed in the character of a ballad with dark melancholy. The execution of the work, dating from 2016 and lasting about ten minutes, is technically very demanding for both instrumentalists. Steven Isserlis, who worked and performed the work in close contact with the composer, provides, in an additional separate cello part, fingerings and bow-strokes. A wonderful enrichment for the cello repertoire!
