The bass's role in the band directly determines the sound it should adopt. Before the MXR M87 Bass Compressor, you could compress your bass using guitar pedals. This condemned you to an overly crushed sound and sacrificed bass. Fortunately, in 2011, MXR released the pedal that all bassists have been waiting for: a compressor specifically designed for low frequencies, with direct access to the settings corresponding to this need.

It all starts with the invaluable visual indicator represented by the Gain Reduction meter: it shows both the magnitude of the compressor's effect and its reaction time, so you can immediately adapt your settings to what you're seeing. The indispensable attack and release time knobs are also present, as are four fixed compression ratio choices and two input and output level settings. This extreme flexibility is at the service of uncompromising sound reproduction, thanks to Constant Headroom Technology, which ensures that even at very high levels of compression, there's never any saturation. And to top it all off, this true studio compressor has the same size as a classic MXR pedal.
