as malcolm young said, "nobody would pay attention to anything that was going on until you kicked them right in the teeth with it." that's the spirit in which the high voltage distortion was designed, to slam into the audience's face. thanks to its bass killer switch, the rhythms are powerful and easily break through the mix! no more sticky, gain-laden distortion that spills all over the place. just sound, dynamics and energy.
With this in mind, the anasounds team, advised by ac/dc fans, developed this new pedal. first we tried to get close to a marshall plexi pushed to the limit, then we finally did a frequency analysis of "it's a long way to the top (if u wanna rock'n'roll)" from the high voltage album. the chords of the intro are so powerful, so clear and so recognizable, that it was time to bring out a pedal that would allow us to find their grain more easily.
Don't get me wrong, with all the settings available, it's also very easy to create your own grain. but that's the spirit in which anasounds created the high voltage.
On the settings side
You will find the classic gain pot, which starts with a transparent od and ends with a powerful distortion with humbuckers. obviously, we are not talking about a big metal compression, but rather a plexi amp pushed to its limits or even a jcm800 that starts to roar.
The second pot controls the output volume, this simple but very effective element since it offers nearly 40v of dynamics. push it to the limit, lower the gain a little and you will see what we are talking about.
finally, the tone of this distortion has been a real subject for anasounds. a classic disto often takes all the frequencies and amplifies them indiscriminately. in this case, the fats drool, the highs pierce your eardrum and you are lost in the mix. that's why the tone pot has a switch on the front panel to cut the bass, to easily break into the mix as long as the bassist is in the band. you can also add some low end, for an impressive low volume sound, to play at home for example!
Trimpot sides
The magic voicing trimpot is still present, allowing to make the effect more saturated or to have a rounder and warmer sound. It is accompanied by a high cut which is activated by default, because it is enough to listen to their songs to realize that above 4khz, there is nothing left at malcolm!
