Marimba Concerto was commissioned by Ryo Takada, the most celebrated marimba player of Japan. The first movement of this varied work contains mainly baroque and classical elements, whereas the middle passage, which is more elegant in atmosphere, gives voice to a characteristic chorale style. By contrast, the last movement is a fast and exciting finale. The movements of this challenging solo for marimba and piano accompaniment continue without pause. Although this concerto lasts a good ten minutes, the music is so lively that it is not just interesting for both performers, but also for the listener, who will be captivated the whole time. This concerto is also available with a concert band accompaniment.
