The professional MIDI controller that redefines the virtual piano playing experience
Kawai proudly presents the VPC1: unsurpassed authentic keyboard mechanics, impressive instrument/software versatility, stunning piano-like design and expert engineering collaboration. The VPC1 is a professional MIDI master keyboard specially designed for use with virtual piano software. This unique product - the first of its kind among all musical instrument manufacturers - draws on over 90 years of expertise in creating top-quality acoustic and digital pianos to provide the best virtual piano experience for home, studio and stage.
The eighty-eight keys of the VPC1 are crafted from long pieces of wood and are coated with a finely textured ivory-like surface to absorb moisture and facilitate playing control. In addition to these authentic materials, the class-leading VPC1 action offers a number of additional features similar to those found on an acoustic piano: fluid swinging movement of the keys, offset balance pins for black and white keys, weighted hammers, counterweights on low keys, simulated escapement. The RM3 Grand II also features a new three-sensor key detection system that improves repetition speed and responsiveness, and enables greater expressiveness from staccato to legato playing.
The VPC1 connects to a Mac or PC via a single USB cable, drawing its power directly from the computer and eliminating unnecessary power cables. Standard MIDI IN / OUT connectors are also available, enabling the VPC1 keyboard to control MIDI peripherals such as sound modules, workstations or microsynths. It's even possible to combine USB and standard MIDI communications, and control instruments and software simultaneously from the same keyboard. The included F-30 pedalboard offers the functionality of a grand piano's 3 pedals: Soft, Sustenuto and Forte, enabling discerning musicians to take full advantage of the amazing sustain and modeled resonances of modern virtual pianos.
While the VPC1 is designed to deliver an unparalleled experience, Kawai also supports the many virtual pianists and software-using musicians who wish to customize every aspect of their setup. For these users, the VPC1 incorporates a dedicated software editor, offering greater control over touch and velocity curves and advanced MIDI routing. Individual configurations can be created for different scenarios, stored in one of five presets in the VPC1's internal memory, and triggered with a simple key assignment.
It's clear that the VPC1 has been developed with a single objective in mind: to offer the very best virtual piano playing experience. This philosophy is reflected in the aesthetic design, with a classic, intelligent and professional appearance with no potentiometers or knobs to distract the virtual pianist from his or her performance, just a power button and eighty-eight black and white keys. Finally, elegantly illustrating Kawai's rich acoustic piano heritage, the VPC1 also includes what all other master pianos neglect: a removable music stand that allows ambitious pianists to perform classical works using the latest hardware and software technologies.
