Building on the popularity of the renowned TG2 preamplifier/DI, the TG2-500 delivers the classic sound of the EMI TG12428 preamplifier used in EMI/Abbey Road recording and mastering consoles in the late 1960s and early 1970s, in the form of a 500 Series module. Using the same TG2 circuitry, transistors, and transformers, the TG2-500 offers 10 to 60 dB of gain and features fine and coarse gain controls, just like the EMI consoles. The unit offers input impedance of 300 and 1200 ohms, just like the TG2.
Equally remarkable, the TG2-500 possesses the same high-frequency bump and midrange tone that users appreciate with the TG2, along with a warm-inducing distortion that contributes to its color. The end result is a creamy, smooth sound with a surprisingly open and clear top end. The sound, as many users describe it, has the "warmth and punch" of the Neve, but with a broader, more pleasing top end.
