This Haydn sonata has so far not been available in the Henle catalog as a separate urtext edition. It is nonetheless one of the most famous works for piano by this benchmark composer. It was written in 1789 - and is therefore part of the late sonatas - for the Leipzig publisher Christoph Gottlob Breitkopf. Its bipartisan structure spans the entire spectrum of Haydn's musical language, from the thoughtful improvisation of the first movement to the petulant wit and humor of the Finale.
