Developed by RME, Digiface AVB is a glimpse into the future of audio networking technology. The device uses AVB, an open protocol developed by the IEEE, to transfer up to 256 audio channels between the PC and the audio network. An additional headphone output allows high quality monitoring.
RME's Digiface AVB shows how audio can be transferred from PC to network and back using the AVB protocol stack. While Apple's Mac OS already supports AVB, the Digiface AVB also brings this functionality to Windows PCs. Equipped with USB 3, it allows you to stream 128 audio channels with sample rates up to 192 kHz over the AVB network and another 128 return channels.
The channels are organized in configurable size streams from 2 to 32 channels, allowing connections to all AVB audio devices available on the market (full compatibility testing underway). The accompanying software package includes an AVDECC controller, which provides essential functions for discovering all AVB devices on a network and for managing incoming and outgoing stream connections. Basic surveillance capabilities are built in. TotalMix FX offers comprehensive routing and monitoring options.
