Description

Academy 22e

Designed specifically for new players, the Academy 22e offers a compact version of our affordable walnut-topped acoustic guitars that delivers both rich sound and an accessible playing experience. With a solid walnut top and layered walnut back and sides, you'll hear a warm, focused response with clear definition between notes, a sound that stays clear and authentic when you plug into an amp or PA with the included ES-B pickup. In addition to the always-comfortable Taylor Neck design, this Grand Concert includes a built-in armrest for enhanced playability, along with a digital tuner so you can tune up on the fly wherever you go. With a durable padded gig bag for storage and transportation, the Academy 22e offers the ideal blend of utility, playing comfort and sonic punch.

Grand Concert

One of the smaller body shapes in the Taylor family, with a slightly shorter scale length – the Grand Concert is easy to both wrap yourself around and press down on the frets, due to a lighter string tension – making it perfect for fingerstyle playing, young people just starting out and those with smaller hands / seeking a lighter touch. As at home in the studio as it is being with you on the road, the clarity of tone a Grand Concert guitar provides makes it perfect to layer with instruments in the mix where more dominating tones may struggle to slot into place. An extremely efficient design, the smaller body frame is inherently stronger, requiring less energy to encourage the soundboard to react - so you’ll find it surprisingly easy to set the strings in motion and really sing.

Layered Walnut

Layered walnut’s rich brown hues lend Taylor acoustic guitars a pleasing aesthetic warmth. Taylor's layered wood construction, built to withstand tests of climate and humidity - features three wood layers, a central core of poplar with a vibrant walnut outer veneer, resulting in a clear tone and durability that will keep you playing through the years.

Walnut

Though better known and more widely used as a back and side wood, walnut also offers a distinctive musical flavor as a soundboard wood. Its physical density and stiffness are akin to Hawaiian koa, generating a similar natural compression effect when used as a top wood that results in a smooth, balanced attack. Players will notice crisp trebles and a woody, warm low-end response that matures and grows richer with time and playing. Walnut generates a bit more presence in the midrange than koa, providing some of mahogany’s dryness and focus in the center of the tonal spectrum balanced by a touch of overtonal texture similar to rosewood.

ES-B

This version of our ES-B electronics incorporates Taylor’s Expression System® 2 piezo design elements and features a multifunctional onboard preamp with a built-in digital chromatic tuner and active tone-shaping EQ control. The preamp/tuner unit features an LED display for tuning and low battery indication, along with a Volume control and 3-band EQ. The preamp/tuner is powered by a 9v battery. With an alkaline battery, battery life expectancy when using the preamp only is over 500 hours, and when using the tuner is over 50 hours. Plugging in the guitar will activate the battery. A low battery indicator on the LED display (located on the preamp circuit board) will light up when the battery reaches 4.5 volts.
