Designed in collaboration with the independent pedal maker Analog Man, the MXR Duke of Tone Overdrive is intended for players who want to add a touch of warmth and grit to their gear while allowing the natural tone and feel of their high-end equipment to come through. Based on the Prince of Tone Overdrive, the single-channel version of the King of Tone Overdrive, this pedal is a dream come true for vintage enthusiasts. Analog Mike personally tested and matched all the different components of the King of Tone Overdrive, ensuring that the sonic seasoning stays in the lineage: a warm but clear and open sound that allows every nuance of your signal chain to stand out, from your guitar strings to the dynamics of your amp tubes.
The Duke of Tone Overdrive also features the same simple yet effective control interface. The Volume, Drive, and Tone knobs cover all your basic settings, while the Boost/OD/Distortion switch lets you set the overall attitude of the pedal’s output. The Boost mode gives you a clean but vigorous sound, the OD mode adds a touch of fizz and compression, and the Distortion mode adds a bit more of both. In all modes, your device’s sound remains your device’s sound. Don’t be afraid to get creative: the Duke of Tone Overdrive excels when combined with other gain pedals, and running the pedal at 18V will give you extra headroom and clarity, especially in Boost mode.
