Wireless MIDI for a wireless world.
Today, it's essential to be able to make music wherever and whenever you want, without getting tangled up in a multitude of cables. And wireless control needs to be easy to implement, as responsive and reliable as a wired connection. Join the wireless MIDI revolution with Roland's WM range, which removes all constraints from your creative workflow.
If you're using a PC, you'll need the WM-1D Wireless MIDI Dongle for wireless MIDI communications. Simply plug it into a free USB port for low-latency communication between any instrument or device equipped with a WM-1 or WM-1D, or with Macs and iOS terminals via Bluetooth MIDI. In addition to MIDI note data, you can transmit MIDI sync for tempo, effects, LFOs, loops and more, without connecting a single cable.
Macs and iOS terminals can communicate with WM devices in Standard mode via Bluetooth MIDI. But when you need the highest possible transfer speed, simply use a WM-1D.
Standard features
- USB dongle for wireless MIDI on PC
- Fast mode on Mac and iOS devices within a WM* system
- Low-latency MIDI communication between other WM boxes and Bluetooth MIDI devices running macOS and iOS operating systems
- Fast mode provides ultra-low-latency transmission (3 ms) when timing is essential
- Standard mode accepts up to four devices, Fast mode only two**.
- Powered by USB connection
- The WM-1 wireless MIDI adapter enables wireless MIDI communication between instruments and devices with 5-pin MIDI sockets
- * USB connection with iOS terminals requires the appropriate Apple adapter.
** Device types and environmental conditions may limit the total number of connectable devices. See the Compatibility tab in the WM-1/WM-1D manual for more information.
Unleash your creativity.
In some situations, wireless MIDI can save you a lot of trouble. Would you like to work on a clean, simple setup with just one MIDI keyboard and a computer, iPhone or iPad? Your favorite MIDI controller is installed far from your computer, and you don't want to get tangled up in the long cable needed to connect them? Do you want to be able to move around your creative space without hindrance with a small keyboard or touch controller? Complicated set-ups get in the way of creativity. But once you've experienced the freedom of Roland wireless MIDI, there's no turning back.
Low latency. High performance.
For musicians, the drawback of many wireless MIDI systems is latency - the time that elapses between pressing a key or hitting a pad, and hearing the sound. High latency forces you to play in an unnatural way, and the timing is never right. The WM range's proprietary wireless technology delivers an ultra-responsive, natural playing experience, just as if you'd plugged in a standard MIDI cable.
The speed of light.
The WM-1D's Standard mode is suitable for most situations, but some applications may require even greater communication speed. Fast mode boosts transfer speed to 3 milliseconds, faster than the internal speed of many instruments, providing ultra-fast communication with other WM adapters.
