The principle of "open cardioid"® directivity was introduced by SCHOEPS in 2008. It is located between classic cardioid pickup and wide cardioid, making it possible to obtain both a fairly high directivity and very natural sound quality. The many years of experience of professional sound engineers with the Schoeps cardioid range played an important role in the development process. In the meantime, the MK 22 has become a favored solo and surround microphone, becoming an alternative to the "classic" MK 4.
