Bass purchased in April 2023 in black finish. I own a 1985 Hofner violin bass and wanted a similar instrument as a backup just in case. The contemporary bass is very beautiful and I totally agree with what others have written here: - the strings need to be changed - the control panel may need to be changed - Above all, you need a very good amp to get the best out of it. At first, I was a bit unsettled by the difference in sound compared to the original Hofner: the contemporary is much duller and it is difficult to make it snap, even when playing with a pick. It took me some time to adapt to make it sound. It is also heavier than my old one. I compensate with the amp's equalization; it is a bass with which you need to take the time to fine-tune the sound. My two basses are ultimately complementary. Overall, I am satisfied with my purchase, Woodbrass was impeccable and I thank them. I only give 4 stars because a case, even a basic one, would have been welcome.

Here is a very demanding bass that is difficult to amplify to bring out the mythical sound of the original one. It is like a mistress: she is capricious and must be earned, and gives a lot when you know how to handle her.

Le moins : Basse livrée avec un léger impact sur la tête - Cordes filets ronds ...dommage pour le son : oblige à racheter des filets plats. Cordes réglées hautes, trop hautes .... séjour chez le luthier obigatoire. Un peu déçu donc ...

I do not regret my purchase! Once the "pick guard" is removed, direct connection to my sound system. Lots of sustain. More than on the original model I owned many years ago and foolishly sold (And yes ) Round and velvety sound. I can't wait to put on flatwound strings HÖFNER H1133 B BEATLE BASS STRINGS available only in Germany unfortunately. Maybe change the black volume knobs (quite ugly) for HÖFNER POTIKNOB H909/15 (Germany too) Or completely change the selector for the original model (Germany again). Simply for the look because the selector mounted on the CONTEMPORARY SERIES seems excellent to me. No unwanted noise. Drastic adjustments. It feels good to be back on this super easy to play neck. A bass to own. For the beauty of its craftsmanship (which at first glance seems excellent to me) Pure happiness. I placed my order Friday evening around 8:00 PM, delivered the following Tuesday. Bass delivered quickly and well packed. For once, the instrument is well set up but the original strings are not good. I immediately opted for flatwound strings (not available at Woodbrass but in Germany, too bad....). You plug it in and off you go: the promise is kept, at least on the Marshall MB30 the sound is really there, the neck comfortable and the bass is very light. Small downside: the case in the photo is not provided!
