Novation 49SL MK3

Description

MIDI hardware and CV / Gate synthesizers all connect to the SL MkIII. Full control is directly from the internal 8-track polyphonic sequencer. It is easy to integrate external equipment by programming it through a sequencer. Isn't it easier to control software by recording productions from a single centerpiece in the studio? The SLMKIII takes control of major software on the market and also offers the HUI protocol. Novation worked with Ableton to create an absolute keyboard controller for their live music creation software. Five color LCD screens give full feedback of settings, making it easy to see everything you are controlling.

Record in real time or insert "step by step" notes, play and edit sequences directly from the keyboard, the childhood of art! The movements of the controllers are automated on the fly in the sequencer, thus bringing productions to life. The sequencer allows 8 voices of polyphony per track! The SL MkIII features a custom semi-weighted synth-style keyboard, the most playable and expressive of all Novation products. With spring action and maximum slew rate (10kHz), it suits the needs of the experienced player and also features aftertouch assignable to any parameter. The SL MkIII's velocity-sensitive RGB pads serve several purposes: they can be used to launch clips, sequencer steps, and are great for finger drumming, and feature polyphonic aftertouch.

Whether you're in the box or out of the box, MIDI and analog clock and transport controls keep everything running over time. Several types of "arpeggiations" to choose from, speed to be defined, gate length, and pads come into play to design rhythmic patterns in real time. Highly customizable "mappings" for hardware and software allow you to control virtually everything. Creating your own models in the software editor for integration into the keyboard has never been easier. Identifying scales and keys has never been so easy and visual. The possibility of configuring several zones and “layers” on the keyboard. Seeing everything instantly thanks to the dynamic feedback by Led RGB is a real technological advance.

I wanted a sequencer keyboard to complement my Arturia Keystep Pro. This keyboard perfectly meets my expectations, it perfectly complements the Keystep Pro by bringing some elements: - large key keyboard - More machines managed on the same source - Machines with pre-recorded midi presets Of course, this does not take away from its Arturia counterpart which also has strengths compared to the 49SL MK3. My small regrets: - Although the finish is clean, for the price, a less "plastic" construction would have been welcome. - More presets for market machines with regular updates on the site and possibly a list of supported products would be a real plus that Novation could offer its customers (the presets present taste too few). - 64-step sequences would be a plus (this would avoid chaining that reduces sequenced variants) - To go along with the previous point, a version with more memory (via memory card for example) allowing to extend session possibilities and sequence length would be nice for computer-free enthusiasts like me. If for you music is something played with physical contact and you are looking for a machine allowing to control machines with pre-recorded sequences without going through a computer, this keyboard is for you....
