Description
This edition is based on the well-founded assumption that Bach's harpsichord concertos BWV 1052–58 are adaptations of solo concertos for other instruments, and that the original form of the work can be reconstructed depending on the characteristics of the solo part. The editor of the present concerto attempts this for the oboe — an instrument that often plays a characteristically prominent role in Bach's cantatas — based on the harpsichord concerto in F minor BWV 1056. The work has been transposed up by a whole tone. The editor's tonal reference for the reconstruction of the slow middle movement is the Sinfonia of the cantata BWV 156 "Ich steh mit einem Fuß im Grabe".
