Jakob Dont (Fingering violin)
Antje Weithaas (Additional indications and practical advice)
The Viennese Jakob Dont is one of the leading violinists of the nineteenth century, and he is the author of many works of study that remain today among the classics essential to the pedagogical literature of the violin. Among them are, in the foreground, his 24 "Studies and Caprices" op. 35, composed already between 1840 and 1849, but which were in 1880 reviewed and reassembled in their definitive form by their author. This very demanding collection of studies (higher level) has achieved so rapid a success that in the twentieth century have been published innumerable reeditions, largely arranged in most cases, from violinists like Carl Flesch, Max Rostal or Ivan Galamian. The G. Henle edition urtext edition for the first time offers the original non-falsified original with authentic fingerings and bows of Dont, all with an attractive graphical clarity and a very practical folding pagination. The world-class violinist Antje Weihaas, who is also a much sought-after teacher, accompanied this edition by verifying its completion, and carefully completed Dont's fingering.
