For over half a century, Latin Percussion has been manufacturing classical percussion and offering hundreds of patented enhancements and new musical instrument concepts that meet the exacting standards of professional musicians. LP instruments have been featured in thousands of the world's most famous recordings, ranging from salsa to rock. The LP product line includes congas, bongos, bells, timpani, cajons, shakers and effect instruments. In fact, LP is kind of like a staple in a lot of musical genres. It's almost impossible to turn on a radio or listen to a playlist without hearing an LP instrument.

In 1956, Martin Cohen, a young mechanical engineer from the Bronx, walked past the famous Birdland jazz club in New York. He walks in and immediately finds himself captivated by the sound and energy of Latin Jazz. Martin was so touched by this music that he wanted to have his own bongos. Unfortunately, due to trade embargoes, high quality Cuban bongos were nowhere to be found in the United States. So Martin decided to use his engineering skills to make them himself. In 1964, Martin Cohen founded Latin Percussion and offered musicians his bongos, bells and other instruments, delivered in brown paper bags. Martin used this close bond he had with artists on the Latin scene. This greatly contributed to the success of the brand. This link is still part of the brand's philosophy today: the needs of professional musicians are a priority. Latin Percussion instruments are considered to be the best percussion instruments in the world.
