Beethoven's cantatas are certainly nowadays part of his lesser-known compositions, even though they were not insignificant for the composer as a work of circumstance related to the events of social and political life. Still composed in Bonn in 1790, the two "Kaiser-Kantaten" ("Cantatas of the Emperor") WoO 87 and 88 remained however unjust during Beethoven's lifetime - it is only a century later that the research work on Beethoven rediscovered them, allowing to admire the depth of feeling. The cantata composed for the official ceremony of the end of the war in 1814, "Der glorreiche Augenblick" ("The glorious moment"), was received with an enthusiastic welcome by the public, when it was created. in Vienna - and its hymn "Europa bin ich - nicht mehr eine Stadt" ("I am Europe - no longer a city"), gives it a new character today. The practical study edition offers the musical text of the complete edition of Beethoven's works, accompanied by a remarkable preface by Beethoven researcher Ernst Herttrich - this is undoubtedly an opportunity to discover the unknown Beethoven!
