The P-S500 features piano sounds sampled from the exceptional Yamaha CFX concert grand piano and the famous Bösendorfer Imperial Viennese grand piano. These piano samples provide you with two of the finest and most fabulous concert grand pianos in the world.
- Total immersion, even with headphones
Binaural sampling technology uses a sampling process in which special microphones, positioned in the ears of a mannequin, were used to capture the sound of the piano as it is audible to the human ear. This technology was chosen to recreate the natural sound diffusion of acoustic pianos on the P-S500. This allows pianists to feel as if they are sitting in front of a real grand piano even when playing with headphones. The result is so natural and enveloping, you forget the headphones are even on your ears.
- Virtual Resonance Modeling (VRM)
On a grand piano, the entire body of the instrument resonates to produce rich reverberations that envelop the listener. The strings that correspond to the notes being played vibrate, causing other strings to interact with them. This is one of the reasons why the sound of a piano is so complex and harmonically rich. The P-S500's Virtual Resonance Modeling (VRM) technology faithfully reproduces the acoustic phenomena generated by a grand piano: it analyses and calculates the state of the various strings (free or muted) according to the notes played on the keyboard or the use of the pedals, and reproduces the resulting natural resonances in real time.

The Yamaha Graded Hammer Standard (GHS) keyboard has a heavier touch in the bass and lighter touch in the treble, just like acoustic pianos. The P-S500 incorporates 660 high-quality tones including superb piano, electric piano, organ, brass, string, percussion and more. From the amazing sounds of saxophones to exceptional guitars, the P-S500 reproduces all the subtleties of these instruments. Thanks to the renowned Super Articulation technology, the distinctive characteristics of each instrument are automatically reproduced in incredible detail as you play.
The automatic accompaniments (called "Styles") cover a wide range of musical styles, including pop, jazz, and more, allowing you to be the leader of a group of musicians or a philharmonic orchestra, even though you are alone at your instrument.
OTHER FUNCTIONS
Audio and MIDI recording
The P-S500 allows you to record your own performances in two different formats: audio and MIDI. Audio recording allows you to simply capture your performance and then listen to it on your smartphone or tablet. MIDI recording, on the other hand, allows you to record up to 16 tracks, with separate left and right hand parts or complex multi-instrument arrangements.
Microphone Input and Vocal Harmonizer
With the ability to connect a microphone, and the on-screen display of song lyrics, you can sing along with the keyboard or enjoy the playback of a song.
