Compression on the main bus was a necessity in the early days of broadcasting to ensure that the signal transmitted over-the-air did not blow listeners' speakers at home. Control of final dynamics is still paramount today, but at the time, music producers were quick to notice the gentle "glue" effect that a quality compressor on the main bus added to a stereo mix - the the way he gently brought the individual tracks together. and unite them in a way that made them both uniform and powerful. Well, one of the most famous stereo compressors of that era, the legendary Neve 33609, inspired the creation of the Behringer 369.
And 369 is actually not that far from my house. This is much more than just a remake, as the heritage and DNA of the original Neve 33609 runs through the veins of the 369. Our engineering team is made up of members who have personally worked with Rupert Neve himself , passing on valuable knowledge and experience to them during development and ensuring the 369 is as faithful to the original as possible. Rupert Neve was a legend and pioneer in the audio engineering industry, having spawned some of the most iconic audio equipment ever created - 33609 included!
The 369 is both a compressor and limiter that offers two distinct modes for controlling the dynamics of any audio signal passing through it. The compressor section gives you more subtle, musical compression while the limiter section more aggressively reduces peaks in your audio signal. Each section is equipped with rotary switches, allowing precise, repeatable adjustments, meaning consistent compression for every recording or mastering session. You can even set both channels to the exact same settings if that's what your mix calls for.
