Gibson Custom Shop 1964 SG Standard With Maestro Vibrola Ultra Light Aged
Gibson Custom Shop is the epitome of craftsmanship, quality and sonic excellence.
Each instrument celebrates Gibson's heritage through precision, authenticity and attention to detail. Regardless of the fact that George Harrison and Eric Clapton wore an SG? 64 Standard, this model year was clearly an exception for SGs in general. The cumbersome side vibrato was replaced by the Maestro? Vibrola. The neck had increased in size, resembling the prole found on the 1959 Les Paul? And the SG's balance, playability and look seemed to be winning the day. For all these reasons, Gibson's Custom Shop is proud to present the 1964 SG Standard Reissue. Reissue. In addition to the Maestro Vibrola and neck prole, it has all the hyper-precise vintage specs you could wish for: original construction methods, chemically recreated plastics, replicated electronics, and more. The result is perhaps SG Reissue's best look, feel and sound to date. It also benefits from ultra-light aging. by Murphy Lab's skilled craftsmen. Murphy Lab's Ultra Light Aged finish treatment, combined with lightly aged hardware, simulates decades of light playing and light wear, giving it the uniqueness, ambience and feel of an original Gibson Golden Era copy. What is the Murphy Lab?

Meet the master
Tom Murphy, master craftsman and author of the new Murphy Lab, played a central role in the creation of Gibson's Custom Shop and personally perfected the guitar aging process. For the past 25 years, he has been reproducing the ambience and character of vintage instruments on new guitars. Thanks to his in-depth knowledge of original instruments, his passion for his work and his visionary creativity, Tom has developed the tools and techniques to age guitars with a precision and attention to detail unrivalled until now.
Down to the smallest detail
Crackle finish
Gibson has scientifically reproduced the original formula of the nitrocellulose varnish used in the 1950s and 1960s. Combined with Tom's exclusive aging techniques, this fragile varnish cracks beneath the surface to give an authentic vintage look and feel.
Ultra Light
Like a precious object that has spent most of its long life carefully stored in its case. Murphy Lab's craftsmen add the most subtle touches, such as slightly cracked varnish, Vintage Original Sheen (VOS) hardware and hand-laid fingerboard purfling.
Light
Simulates fifty years of average wear, a favorite guitar that rarely left the comfort of home. More intense patterns of varnish cracking, unique to each instrument, are accompanied by light impacts, pick marks, finish chipping and worn edges throughout. It is accompanied by hand-fitted Vintage Original Sheen (VOS) hardware and fingerboard.
Heavy
This guitar has been used on the road for decades, it seems. Wear is extensive, with lots of belt buckle scratches, light arm wear, neck wear, soundboard wear, and noticeable scratches throughout the guitar. Combined with highly aged Murphy Lab hardware and hand-laid fingerboard purfling.
Ultra Heavy
Like the old favorite guitar your hero has been performing with for decades. Our craftsmen evoke half a century of touring, with significant belt buckle marks, heavy arm wear, visible pick, neck and soundboard wear, and exposed wood areas. Combined with highly aged Murphy Lab hardware and hand-laid fingerboard purfling.
Weathered hardware
Murphy Lab's craftsmen gently age each knob and component to simulate years of wear, adapting to the worn body to create the look and feel of an instrument that has traveled far, but functions like new.
Murphy mileage
Wear on the handle, where the handle is used. The back of the body is exposed where a belt buckle would hit. Your Gibson Murphy Lab will look like a family heirloom from the moment you open the case.
