SELMER responds to the demands of jazz saxophonists with the launch of JAZZ FLOW, a new ebonite mouthpiece for alto saxophone, marking the importance of jazz in the DNA of the House of SELMER after years of development.
Inspiration In Jazz, "flow" refers to the FLUIDITY and SPONTANEOUSNESS in MUSICAL IMPROVISATION, where musicians interact coherently and fluidly while creating music in real time. It's a feeling of continuity and natural musical communication. The name is also inspired by one of SELMER's earliest mouthpiece models from the 1950s, the AIR FLOW. The forerunner of the Soloist, this highly flexible mouthpiece offered musicians a wide range of sound textures.
Jazz flow Thanks to its acoustic expertise and collaboration with prestigious musicians, Henri SELMER Paris has created a mouthpiece with a universal acoustic signature, particularly suited to jazz and contemporary music (funk, pop, electro, world music). Its sound is characterised by exceptional density, depth of Throat and warmth of tone.
Material
For over a century, ebonite has been the preferred material for making mouthpieces because of its exceptional properties. Ebonite, made from the natural latex of the Hevea tree, is certified non-toxic and complies with European Directive EU2009/48/EC. Henri SELMER Paris has maintained these strict quality and safety standards for over a hundred years, using this easy-to-machine ebonite, which offers exceptional acoustic quality and longevity.
Manufacture
Each mouthpiece is carefully crafted on CNC centres designed to maintain our high quality standards. Used for many years in the Swiss watchmaking industry, the machines ensure perfect repeatability with a tolerance of less than 0.03mm. The optical 3D control machine, equipped with a high-resolution camera, meticulously scans all the parameters of the beak, guaranteeing exceptional manufacturing precision.
Quality
All the mouthpieces are hot-stamped with a gold ribbon in the traditional way, to authenticate their origin and authenticity. The brand logo, model and "Made in France" are inlaid into the spout.
