Sweden is one of the world's largest music exporters. How did a country of some ten million people manage to become a key player in the international hit-making community? Yet the fact remains that, from ABBA's heyday to the present day, Sweden—and Stockholm in particular—has produced songwriters, artists, and hits of all genres, almost one after the other. Whatever the reason, with this collection of sounds, we've decided to bring that charm to your computer.
This SDX for Superior Drummer 3 was recorded at Riksmixningsverket (RMV Studio). Housed in a 150-year-old naval warehouse and ideally located on the waterfront at the mouth of the river, it's one of the true gems of central Stockholm's studio scene. With its rustic ceiling beams that break up the diffusion, its reflective surfaces composed of several types of materials, and its soft parquet flooring acting as a damping membrane, the relatively large yet compact studio provides an ideal space to reveal the intrinsic qualities of any acoustic instrument. In total, five kits were recorded, each carefully selected to complement the others and fulfill its own function, with the aim of capturing a unique palette of beautifully singing percussion, spanning the entire sonic spectrum, from warm, earthy, and truly refined to bright, powerful, and vibrant.
