Paraphonic analog synthesizer in a limited edition, designed in collaboration with renowned British graphic designer, Ian "Swifty" Swift.Graphic by culture. Analog by nature.
Novation's Bass Station II has established itself as a modern classic in analog synthesis since its release in 2013. Essential on stage and in the studio for over a decade, it is renowned for its exhaustive sound design capabilities, its solid character, and its unbeatable quality/price ratio. This modern classic now gets a new look thanks to Ian "Swifty" Swift, the visionary designer behind the unique aesthetics of Mo’ Wax, Straight No Chaser, and many others, a key figure in the evolution of visual identity in hip-hop, jazz, and the urban music culture of the UK.
This limited edition of the Bass Station II features Swifty's characteristic typography, as well as specially printed panels and graphic patterns inspired by rave flyers, dubplate culture, and DIY fanzines, bringing an underground touch to a synth that has been a driving force in electronic music for over a decade.
Bass, but not only
The Bass Station II is equally at home on stage and in the studio. It can produce sounds that are as warm as they are brutally intense at will. Modulate the filter to make it sing, increase the distortion to make the bass even more aggressive, and push the resonance to self-oscillation to make your melodic lines scream.
Undeniably analog, infinitely versatile
The Bass Station II is second to none when it comes to producing striking analog sounds, thanks to its two tuneable oscillators and its sub-oscillator for boosting the bass. Add to that a noise source, pulse width modulation, a ring modulator, two distinct types of analog filters, and a multitude of modulation options via two LFOs and a pair of ADSR envelopes, and you have everything you need to shape your sound in intricate detail.
Complex sound design, made simple
The Bass Station II offers a wealth of controls arranged intuitively on the front panel to encourage you to explore all its sonic facets in a fluid and playful way. Created a sound you love? Save it in one of the 64 user presets.
Stay creative with pre-programmed patches
The Bass Station II comes with 64 diverse patches, each showcasing a different aspect of its sonic capabilities. Looking for new ideas? Open Components (components.novationmusic.com), where you’ll find a wide selection of artist presets available for free download. Components also acts as a software sound library for the Bass Station II. Its user-friendly interface will help you manage all your patches with ease.
And bonus new artist presets
To celebrate the launch of this special edition of the Bass Station II, we’ve curated a selection of new exclusive presets created by some of our favorite artists. Discover a multitude of new sounds from Dutch techno icon Legowelt, alternative pop duo Pecq, and keyboard virtuoso Maria Chiara Argiro.
Built-in arpeggiator and sequencer
The Bass Station II will also instantly give you melody ideas. Launch its sequencer or arpeggiator and let yourself be inspired by their various patterns. Record your own real-time patterns in the sequencer and store them for reuse with a patch. Sequences and arpeggios are automatically synchronized with the music software or MIDI equipment the synth is connected to. You can also easily adjust the swing values via a simple shortcut.
The center of your setup
The Bass Station II will work seamlessly with all your music software and MIDI-equipped gear. For this purpose, it has a 5-pin DIN MIDI input and output for connecting external synths, controllers, and sequencers; a sustain pedal input; an external audio input for routing other sounds through its analog filters and effects; as well as a dedicated headphone output. You can also power the Bass Station II via its USB port, and since it is natively compatible, you don't need any drivers to use MIDI over USB.
Paraphonic mode
The Bass Station II is a paraphonic synth, meaning it lets you play two notes at once instead of just one. Try applying ring modulation, synchronizing the oscillators, and modulating the filters to produce wild harmonics.
AFX Mode
The AFX mode was created in collaboration with the electronic music legend, Richard D. James, aka Aphex Twin. It lets you assign a distinct patch to each key on the keyboard. This way, you can assign nearly identical patches to instantly create subtle variations or, on the contrary, play completely different sounds across the entire keyboard. You can even create full drum kits and produce rhythms using the keyboard keys or through the arpeggiator.
Components
The Components content manager lets you save and restore patches or AFX configurations on your Bass Station II. It also allows you to load third-party tuning tables, customize your startup message, and more. You can download the application for your computer or simply connect your Bass Station II to a Mac® or PC equipped with Chrome™ and log in at components.novationmusic.com.
