At the beginning of February 1794, Haydn went to London for his second stay in England. The Symphony in E flat major Hob.I: 99 was already finished by this time, and was already premiered on February 10. The public and the press were enthusiastic, which was confirmed by a review the next day: "This is one of the greatest artistic events we have ever attended [...] - It was greeted with thunderous applause."
