The Custom EX is one of the answers to Yamaha's quest for the ideal saxophone sound, and is the result of decades of painstaking research and testing with some of the world's greatest saxophonists.
Designed with the classical saxophonist in mind, EX saxophones offer smooth key response, blow comfortably and deliver a deep, refined sound rich in colour. The EX also offers great flexibility, with a wide dynamic range and astonishing projection that fills the room with an authoritative sound.
Numerous assets
The Custom EX tenor saxophones feature a hand-crafted G3 jar for precise intonation and excellent response. The octave key features an all-new, uniquely designed lever for faster, smoother action. The new bowl clamp ring greatly improves resonance. The left hand rocker (Bb) has been redesigned for easier playing and greater comfort. The EX's bell/body gap has two attachment points to improve projection and give a freer response. The reinforcement inside the breech has been removed on the EX to improve air resistance. The unique teardrop-shaped F-key improves playability. It can be adjusted to suit players' preferences. Mother-of-pearl is used for the keys. It improves playability by making it easier to grip thanks to a soft, non-slip surface. The left-hand toggle key has been designed to improve playability and provide a more comfortable feel. The two-point contact is adopted for better projection and a free response. The craftsmen shape the bell from a sheet of brass using a hammer. This unifies the body and facilitates intonation in the middle and lower registers. Each instrument is hand-engraved. The Custom EX logo is proof of craftsmanship. The bell rings ensure that the instrument vibrates well when the player blows into it. Separate keycaps feature adjustable screw caps for professional-style technical adjustments.
