An extremely simple boost...
It all started as a project for FX Teacher... Faced with the overly complex circuits of the Ego Driver or the Tremolo, the Anasounds team started to work on a very simple boost model so that masterclasses could be done with few components and a smoother flow. But obviously this attempt to keep things simple was short-lived...
The model originally chosen as the basis for development was the famous transistor preamp of an American tape echo manufactured between 1970 and 1991, which can be heard on countless albums in all styles. Many pedals derived from this circuit have proven themselves on millions of modern pedalboards, so it was a good starting point.
...with enormous possibilities
So the FX Teacher Tape Preamp takes the big, warm sound of the original JFET, without turning it into a painless clean boost like some other models. The Tape Preamp sounds with the vintage thickness and grain of a real tape echo preamp, the only difference is that you have more control over the output (and don't have to lug a huge box to your gigs). The Louder knob controls the overall volume of the boost while Dynamic controls the headroom, i.e. it allows you to go from a high setting where the dynamics of your sound are well respected to a low setting that crushes the sound and gives it the "sag" of a small tube amp well pushed. To complete the picture, a three-position switch allows you to progressively cut the bass so that the boost is not too invasive on an amp that is already well endowed with it.
