Description

The reference condenser
The WA-14 is an authentic recreation of the ultra-rare 414 "EB circuit" style microphone, the most authentic studio mic of all time. Ideal for capturing the natural sound of performances with minimal coloration and smooth highs, the WA-14 delivers the same sonic performance as the original - a favorite of artists like The Police, Common, Freddie Mercury and Billy Corgan. The WA-14 can be used on a wide range of sources, such as: intimate percussive/warm vocals, acoustic/electric guitars, bass, drums/percussion, strings/orchestral material and many other sources. Equipped with a custom all-brass CK12-style capsule, a CineMag USA transformer, and a fully discrete signal path, the WA-14 delivers realism and thickness true to the vintage microphone, but at an affordable price.

Components without compromise
The WA-14 is a professional large-diaphragm microphone featuring premium components, elite build quality, and hand-inspected in Austin, Texas. The WA-14's circuit design is faithful to the famous "414" style pickups of the early '70s and serves as the basis for the historically accurate sound profile. Like the original, the WA-14 delivers natural sound reproduction with rich analog tone. This comes from the gradual increase (1-2 kHz) of the presence of the mids with soft and never harsh highs. At the start of the circuit, the WA-14 features an all-brass CK12-style capsule, which stays true to the specifications of the early "EB"-style pickups that shared the all-brass capsule with their "12." -Style” cousins. This capsule allows the WA-14 to have 3 polar patterns: cardioid, omni and figure 8. At the end of the circuit, the WA-14 uses a US-made CineMag output transformer, which gives the WA-14 a sound much richer than most modern reissued transformerless pickups. The CineMag transformer transfers more tone out of the capsule and additional critical components, like high-end film capacitors and precision resistors.

A stereo pair for superior sound
To achieve the most natural and consistent stereo image, the WA-14 is also available in the WA-14SP, a set of sequential stereo pairs. Tested to ensure each mic is within +/- 1 dB of each other, this complete set ensures consistent performance for stereo recording applications. Use the included straight mounting bar to record quality stereo tracks with the WA-14 SP virtually effortlessly. Aligning the two WA-14s in parallel with each other on the bar ensures that both capsules will be equidistant from the source, thus avoiding phase issues. With the natural, defined midrange of the famous "EB" style circuit in stereo, adding rich ambience to your recordings has never been easier.
