Description

Direct Active Box with Extended Dynamic range Klark Teknik DN 100 V2

The DN100 has become the favorite of engineers and musicians. With its large reserve of power, its dynamic response and its sound clarity, the DN100 faithfully reproduces the character of the electrical and acoustic instruments and makes it possible to capture much more details of musical performance. The DN100 is intended for professional applications where the ghost supply +48 V is a standard characteristic of all mixing consoles, and its innovative design results in a significantly higher clipping point than that of many other direct active boxes , offering an output of +10 DBU in a load of 2 K?. This increased room for maneuver means that much higher level input signals can be welcomed without the need for an attenuation pad. Combined with a very low noise input circuit topology, the DN100 offers a very wide dynamic range, and requires only one PAD of -30 dB to be used in the event of direct connection to outputs of instrument amplifiers .

The DN100 is built to support the rigors of life on the road, a thick extrusion of aluminum protects electronics, which is in turn covered with a resistant silicone rubber sleeve.

Symmetrical outlet isolated by transformer
Exhaustive listening tests using a wide variety of active and passive low guitars, electro-acoustic guitars and electronic music instruments were carried out to select the components of the DN100 in order to obtain the best musical sound. Not only was the choice of the audio transformer particularly important to achieve this objective, but the impedances of the surrounding components were also very critical to obtain the best possible performance of the audio transformer. The line control characteristics of the transformer output were carefully optimized to provide the best frequency and phase responses for short and long cables and very different line and termination impedances.

During the design of the DN100, care was taken to avoid the saturation of the core of the audio transformer and a fixed passage filter was included in the signal route to mitigate the frequencies lower than those that are important on the musical level . The most serious note of a low guitar at 5 or 6 strings is B0 with a frequency of 30.87 Hz, and the most serious note on a piano keyboard at 88 keys is A0 with a frequency of 27.50 Hz. The DN100 always maintains a frequency response of ± 0.5 dB to these lowest music notes.

In addition to the transformer in the signal path, the DN100 also has a transformer to isolate the power rails of the entry circuit of the ghost power from the XLR output connector. Used in conjunction with the Earth LIFT switch, this complete galvanic insulation of the input and output interfaces makes it possible to avoid any risk of earth loop during a direct power supply from a background equipment.

Double impedance inputs
A personalized instrumentation quality input circuit has been designed for DN100 using advanced analog design techniques to create the very high input impedance required by passive guitar and bass microphones, while maintaining the real values Components at a low level to minimize noise. This innovative approach to the design of the circuit produces a very low noise floor, which, combined with a high clipping point, creates an unrivaled dynamic range in a direct box fueled by a +48V ghost.

The DN100 has an XLR input connected in parallel and two ¼ "inputs, one can also be used as a link output for connection to a guitar or bass amplifier. When connecting to the ' Entrance XLR only, the input impedance is 20 k?, ideal for line level equipment and offering even lower noise performance. This input impedance is far too low for guitar and bass microphones And is removed from the circuit when a jack plug is inserted into a ¼ "input", which gives a nominal input impedance of 1 m?, ideal for passive electric microphones.

Illuminated switches 30DB Pad and Earth LIFT
The DN100 is equipped with enlightened PAD and Earth Lift switches, which, with the led indication of the ghost supply +48V, provide a state display "at a glance", even at large distances and under Large angles of view.

The Earth Lift switch separates the input and output masses, which is useful for eliminating earth loops between equipment powered by different electrical networks.

Designed for the road
With robust aluminum extrusion, the DN100 is designed to withstand the rigors of concert tours. The rubber protective corners are also insulate the DN100 chassis to further improve its electrical insulation. Superior quality XLR neutrik connectors are used to guarantee reliable audio connections, night after night.
