Description

The envelope filter is one of the classic effects used by many bass players to make their sound more human, more alive and more funky. The M82 is undoubtedly its best contemporary iteration, adapted to vintage grains as to the most current experiments.

Love potion.
The Envelope Filter or "envelope filter" is sometimes called "automatic wah" since it can sound very similar to a wah-wah without requiring the activation of a pedal. The envelope filter detects each of your attacks and opens a filter based on the intensity, passing your note from low to high with a characteristic "wah". Want to hear some great examples in action? Listen to Flea with the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Bootsy Collins with Parliament or The Claypool with Primus.

A big sensitive.
Three main settings adjust the filter of the M82. Decay controls the frequency until which the filter opens, Q adjusts the intensity of the effect, and finally Sensitivity determines the sensitivity of the filter opening to your attack. In other words, the higher the setting, the easier the filter will open. This setting is also perfect for adapting the MXR Bass Envelope Filter to the output level of both active and passive basses.

Let's save the bass.
Two other settings complete this beautiful picture to fit perfectly the rest of your system: Dry and FX. These two buttons actually control the respective volumes of your original sound and the one affected by the M82 Bass Envelope Filter. In other words, you can make the effect very marked or even more discreet while maintaining the bass of your original sound. The bassists with five-string amateur subs very thick will finally be able to coat them with auto-wah!
