The Cranborne Audio 500R8 is the centerpiece of the modern studio. This 28-in/30-out USB audio interface combines 500-format rackmount and high-performance A/D-D/A conversion with all the connectivity required by today's studios. The 500R8 includes the studio essentials you need to build the studio of your dreams, such as an 8-in/2-out analog summing mixer, a full-featured monitoring controller with talkback, a 16-in/16-out ADAT interface, and a zero-latency analog artist mixer with high-power, quality headphone outputs.
USB Audio Interface
The USB 2.0 audio interface offers high channel count and low-latency performance, while being supported by all PC/macOS devices. Plug in the 500R8 and your workstation will see a full-featured 28-in/30-out USB audio interface. The 500R8 also includes a full range of MIDI, ADAT, Word Clock and S/PDIF I/O to ensure all the connectivity of a digital studio.
Monitor Controller
The 500R8 features a full-featured monitor controller for connecting two monitoring systems. With seamless monitoring switching, mono compatibility, DIM and mute. A full Talkback section, with XLR mic input and 48V phantom power, automatically sends talkback signals to all C.A.S.T. and headphone outputs connected to the system.

Think of the 500R8 as a bank of 8 external analog plug-ins. You can configure it to suit your tastes in analog flavor. By installing your favorite rack500 modules in the 8 available slots, you create your ultimate analog kit that can be recorded directly in multitrack in your workstation. The possibilities are endless and your interface is unique. The integration of the 500 Series modules into the workflow does not stop after recording. Dedicated module source switches for each 500 Series slot allow you to send channels from your workstation to the 8 installed modules, and send them back to your workstation for recording (with that analog "mojo" applied).
Digital at its best
To capture every subtle nuance of your analog signals, the 500R8 features reference-class A/D-D/A conversion with a dynamic range of 121 dB (A-weighted) and a THD+N of <0.00032% (@ -4dBFS, 1kHz, A-weighted), driven by an internal reference clock with less than 0.5 picoseconds of jitter. The combination of a highly accurate, low-jitter clock and high-performance digital conversion ensures that all the analog character is captured in the utmost detail.
Summing Mixer
The 500R8’s analog summing gives your mix the final analog character required to achieve professional and refined sonic results. Positioned after the 8 slots, you can insert saturation modules or subtle “bus compression”. The 500R8's summing mixer also features a dedicated converter that can be used to record your stereo mix to USB inputs 9/10 with a massive +24dBu of dynamic headroom.
