The spinning of the bass strings is phosphor-bronze 80% copper, 20% tin and 0.3% phosphorus on a hexagonal steel core. It is the addition of phosphorus which gives the strings their golden color. The base alloy used for spinning is the most noble of the bronzes, it is used in the manufacture of bells for millennia or high-end cymbals under the name of B20. Earthwood strings deliver clear, precise sound. Phosphorus adds to the sound an harmonic richness easily identifiable. The sound is softer and felted while maintaining excellent clarity.
The unworn Heartwood strings are made of high-carbon nickel-plated steel, they are the same strings as the non-spun Electric Slinky Nickel. They are therefore interchangeable in case of emergency.
The Ernie Ball strings are packaged in an airtight pouch that ensures the opening of new ropes as at the factory!
