Roland JD-XI

Description

Small, powerful, affordable, the JD-Xi brings together a true analog tone generator, Roland's famous SuperNATURAL synth sounds, and many other creative tools in one instrument. With its 37 mini-keys, this compact keyboard delivers both fat and warm analog bass and lead sounds, with the ability to control them live, as well as PCM essentials like Pads, Strings and other Brass. The built-in pattern sequencer and drum kits make creating impressive loops a snap. You will also be able to produce amazing vocal textures thanks to the AutoPitch, the Vocoder, and the microphone mounted on the instrument. Small in size, but big in versatility, the JD-Xi is the master of big sounds and fun to play.

A MIC ON PERCHET FOR VOCODING, AUTOPITCH AND OTHER VOCAL EFFECTS
The JD-Xi is equipped with a high quality boom microphone that will expand your sonic palette. By using the Vocoder while singing into the microphone, you can control the timbre and pitch of your voice from sounds played on the keyboard. With AutoPitch, it's easy to produce the robotic voice sounds that have become classics in pop and electronic music. As for the brilliant Auto Note function, it allows you to "sing" the synth sounds of the JD-Xi without touching the keyboard!

BUILD YOUR LOOPS WITH THE FOUR TRACKS SEQUENCER
Using the intuitive pattern sequencer and the wide range of onboard sounds, you can create elaborate music from the JD-Xi alone. The sequencer can handle four separate parts - two digital parts, an analog part and a drum part - allowing you to create rich and elaborate musical loops in any style. Realtime or step recording is possible, as well as a special TR-REC recording mode, for programming in the style of classic Roland TR- drum machines. It's easy to create patterns and modify sounds in real time; as for the many preset patterns, they allow you to make music the first time you pick up the instrument.

PRO-QUALITY DRUM KITS FOR POWERFUL RHYTHMS
With its dynamic drum kits, the JD-Xi is capable of producing quality rhythms, suitable for any style, whether acoustic or electronic. The assignment of the various elements to the keyboard keys is clearly displayed for quick identification. You can customize your kits by changing the filter, envelope, pitch, and stereo distribution of each of the drum sounds that make them up.

Use
Having bought this 5 or 6 years ago I can say I really love the keyboard itself and the quality of the functionality and sounds. It takes a bit of getting used to the menus and how to program it, but once you've learned it, it becomes fairly easy. Unfortunately, a couple of the keys have snapped, which having googled it seems like a fairly common problem with this keyboard. It's frustrating trying to get the replacement parts as Roland do not supply directly and my 2 closest Roland dealers are over an hour drive away. Neither has replied to email enquiries (over 2 months ago). I'd give 5 stars for the product itself, but let down a bit by the after-sales.
