The Essentials to Know About the Prophet-5 "Rev4" Synthesizer
- Authentic analog sound from the Rev1/2/3 thanks to discrete VCOs and switchable Curtis/Rossum filters.
- Vintage Knob to dial in the organic instability of vintage circuits, from the most stable to the most temperamental.
- Fatar 61-note semi-weighted keyboard with velocity and aftertouch for modern expressiveness.
- Extended polyphony in 10-voice configuration (equivalent to Prophet-10) for lush chords and layered sounds.
A Legendary Return, Faithful to the Spirit of the Originals
Designed by Sequential under the guidance of Dave Smith, the Prophet-5 "Rev4" combines the DNA of the first three revisions of the iconic model. It blends the muscular character of vintage VCOs with a choice of legendary filters by Doug Curtis and Dave Rossum, to recapture the color of the Rev1/2/3 while benefiting from contemporary reliability. This reissue is available in 5 and 10-voice versions; the model presented here adopts the 10-voice configuration, in the spirit of the original Prophet-10.
For Which Musicians and Uses?
Ideal for advanced to expert keyboardists, producers, and sound designers seeking an iconic analog polyphonic synth. Perfect in the studio or on stage for electro, synthwave, ambient, techno, pop, and soundtrack music, where its harmonic presence and expressive pads shine.
Features and Innovations
Based on subtractive synthesis, the engine includes two CEM3340 VCOs per voice with simultaneously selectable waveforms, hard sync, and a 4-pole resonant low-pass filter per voice. A switch allows choosing between the character of the Prophet-5 Rev1/2 filter (2140 topology designed by Dave Rossum) and the Rev3 Curtis chip filter, to sculpt the harmonic response as close as possible to the originals. The fast and musical ADSR envelopes, combined with the Vintage Knob, offer a wide palette ranging from modern precision to the organic drift of vintage machines.
On the performance side, the Fatar 61-key keyboard with velocity and aftertouch guarantees immediate expressiveness. Sound management is simplified with 200 factory presets and 200 user presets, organized into 5 banks of 40, plus direct access to a set of 8 programs in the style of historic Prophets. Comprehensive connectivity-MIDI In/Out/Thru, USB, CV/Gate, audio outputs, and pedal inputs-facilitates integration into any hybrid setup.
