Sequential PROPHET 6

Description

Essential Information About the Sequential Prophet-6 Synthesizer

  • True 6-voice analog polyphony with 2 discrete VCOs plus a sub-oscillator per voice, for dense and organic pads and leads.
  • Dual filter per voice: 4-pole resonant low-pass filter inspired by the Prophet-5 and 2-pole resonant high-pass filter, ideal for sculpting the low end and opening up the mix.
  • Modern performance-oriented workflow: 49-key keyboard with velocity and aftertouch, multimode arpeggiator, and polyphonic step sequencer up to 64 steps.
  • Integrated "studio" effects in dual sections with True Bypass, plus a 100% analog stereo distortion to thicken the sound without losing character.

A Proud Tribute to the Prophet-5, with the Demands of a Modern Instrument

Designed as a direct homage to the Sequential Prophet-5, the Prophet-6 carries forward the DNA that marked the history of polyphonic synths: analog oscillators, filters, and amplifiers with an immediately recognizable character. Rather than a simple reissue, it pushes the concept further with exemplary stability, stage-ready ergonomics, and contemporary tools (effects, arpeggiator, and sequencer) to create faster without sacrificing sound quality.

Who It's For and the Styles Where the Prophet-6 Excels

The Prophet-6 is aimed at experienced musicians and analog enthusiasts seeking an inspiring, immediate, and reliable instrument. It shines in synthwave, pop, electro, melodic techno, ambient, and film scoring, thanks to its warm pads, solid basses, and expressive leads. In the studio, it integrates easily into mixes thanks to the high-pass filter and effects; live, its direct control and performance wheels invite playing "by touch," with dynamic response via velocity and aftertouch.

Features and Innovations

At the heart of the Prophet-6 is an analog subtractive synthesis architecture with a fully analog signal path: 2 discrete VCOs plus a sub-oscillator per voice and continuously variable waveforms (triangle, sawtooth, pulse with variable width) to shift from a soft timbre to an aggressive texture in one gesture. The filtering section offers two resonant stages per voice: a 4-pole low-pass inspired by the Prophet-5 for warmth and "punch," complemented by a 2-pole high-pass to lighten the lows and refine pads in dense arrangements.

For pattern creation and performance, the multimode arpeggiator and polyphonic step sequencer (up to 64 steps) allow building lively lines and harmonic progressions directly from the panel. On the processing side, the dual effects section (digital at 24-bit / 48 kHz) adds reverbs, standard and BBD delays, chorus, and phaser, while maintaining a True Bypass to preserve a fully analog signal path when desired. An independent 100% analog stereo distortion enhances presence, particularly effective on basses and leads.

Use
A magnificent synthesizer. The first time I turned it on, I couldn't believe it. I was used to decent sounds but there was really that little electric click specific to analog hardware and that presence that fills the entire spectrum. You get lost in the richness of the sound. The "unison" mode allows you to get closer to a monophonic synthesizer. It's still far from a Moog in terms of monophonic power but with a bit of practice you can get sounds worthy of the lead from "Dafunk" by Daft Punk. It didn't seem difficult to handle but it will take some practice before perfectly adjusting a sound. The synth parameters are very sensitive. The highpass filter is very interesting for different ambient effects, pads, and transitions. The distortion is difficult to master but brings a lot of richness to the sound (especially for basses). The digital effects (reverb, delay, chorus, phaser, flanger) are of very good quality and many settings are possible.... (Show more)
