High-level conversion and preamps


The ESS Sabre32 Ultra converters ensure faithful reproduction, with a 120 dB dynamic range on the TRS outputs. The mic preamps, equipped with independent 48 V phantom power, provide precise gain and extremely low noise for clear vocals and instruments.



Latency, drivers, and monitoring


Thanks to MOTU USB drivers, the M4 achieves a minimal round-trip latency of 2.5 ms at 96 kHz. The color LCD screen offers clear bargraphs to target optimal levels for recording and mixing, while the Monitor knob instantly balances direct sources and computer playback.



Simplified streaming and podcasting


The loopback easily routes computer audio back to your host DAW, to combine with microphones or guitar for a ready-to-broadcast stream. The headphone output, driven by ESS converters, guarantees powerful and precise monitoring to catch every detail.

Hello, I had time to go through the interface, and it fully meets my expectations. Clarity, no hiss, ultra-low latency, intuitive routing, good ergonomics even in "Desktop" mode, and complete connectivity. Very satisfied and it feels like equipment that lasts over time. No installation issues, and the software "package" is correct. (I had ordered a M-Audio AIR 192/8 here which I returned after a week due to malfunctioning "Gain" buttons with 48V power supply, and random latency) Thanks to Woodbrass customer service and their responsiveness, as well as the quick shipping of the Motu M4.

High-quality all-metal sound card inspiring quality. The sound obtained is excellent with the provided software, Ableton Lite. However, a small issue: it is impossible for me to use the second software, Performer Lite 11, provided under Windows 8.1, which apparently is only intended for Windows 10 or 11! I recommend this card and the WOODBRASS site!

I don't have enough experience yet to rate the value for money. Otherwise, the installation is simple, the update on the site is quick, and everything works perfectly on my Mac and Logic X. The product is well finished and very easy to use. The features are well thought out.

Package received express as charged. The package was not opened, the external packaging was well sealed, the Motu M4 case had been "re-taped" and there could be fingerprints on the adhesive. This may suggest that the case was opened. Nothing seems to be missing and this review is only published one week after purchase, allowing time to observe any issues. The overall impression remains unpleasant and should be monitored over time. As for the MOTU M4 equipment, daily use brings no regret in choosing this model among other audio interfaces. However, for Windows, driver and software downloads on the Motu site may be blocked by your antivirus software because the download links as of late September 2020 are flagged as dangerous - tests with several antiviruses on several machines. I opened a ticket with Motu to report this. You can take the penultimate generation drivers and it works very well. Overall rating is only 3 stars: related to poor product packaging at Woodbrass....
