Essential Information About the RME Digiface USB Audio Interface
- 4 ADAT/S/PDIF optical ports offering up to 32 inputs and 34 outputs, plus a 6.35 mm TRS headphone/line output (channels 33/34) for direct monitoring.
- Ultra-flexible routing and monitoring with TotalMix FX (without effects), controllable and recallable for professional workflows.
- Compatibility with ADAT, S/PDIF, SMUX, and SMUX4 up to 192 kHz, SteadyClock II clock for maximum jitter suppression.
- Ultra-compact USB 2.0 bus-powered format, RME drivers with very low latency for mobile and studio environments.
From HDSP Heritage to Ultra-Mobility
Descended from the famous HDSP Digiface, this USB version simplifies PC/Mac connection by replacing the PCI card with a self-powered USB 2.0 bus. It adds a fourth optical port to reach 4 ADAT/S/PDIF I/Os while maintaining the clock stability and advanced routing philosophy dear to RME.
Who Is It For, and For What?
The Digiface USB is ideal for sound engineers, keyboardists, and home studios who want to centralize multiple ADAT preamps and converters, quickly expand a laptop's I/O, or set up precise headphone monitoring with imperceptible latency. It integrates well for multitrack recording as well as broadcasting and live streaming.
Features and Workflow
TotalMix FX Routing
TotalMix FX offers virtually unlimited mixing and routing: each input and playback can be sent to any hardware output. A dedicated Control Room section (Talkback, Main/Phones, fader and mute groups) facilitates studio and live scenarios, with remote control via Mackie or OSC protocol. No effects DSP is onboard to preserve minimal latency.
Digital Formats and High Resolution
Each optical port can be independently switched between ADAT (up to 8 channels at 44.1/48 kHz, SMUX at 88.2/96 kHz, SMUX4 at 176.4/192 kHz) and stereo S/PDIF. At 192 kHz, up to 8 channels remain usable via the 4 optical ports for both input and output. The dedicated headphone/line output allows reference listening or an additional send.
Clock Stability and Mobility
SteadyClock II technology ensures excellent jitter rejection and clean conversion. The lightweight, bus-powered format enables modular and portable digital rigs without external power supply.
