No one knows flatwound bass strings better than Thomastik. Inspired by the "Spirocore" double bass strings, the Jazz Flat Wound series allows bassists to enjoy the warm, round sound that has made the Austrian company famous. Thomastik uses a very flexible steel core wrapped with a silk inlay. The outer winding is a genuine flat-wound ribbon, made from a special nickel alloy. The result is an incredible depth of tone and an enhanced fundamental that is not available on any other flatwound string.
A story of passion
“You just have to make one yourself!” That’s what Franz Thomastik’s father replied when he asked for a violin. And young Franz took him literally. By making them in cigar boxes or from the finest woods, he spent his life pursuing excellence in the crafting of his instruments but also, and above all, his strings, for which he filed a manufacturing patent.
The Austrian manufacturer left behind a true legacy and unmatched know-how that his company continues to nurture, allowing stringed instrument players, both plucked and bowed, to enjoy an extremely high-quality sound.
